The Commerical Driver’s License (CDL) training program is offered through the Community and Economic Development department at MCC in collaboration with CDL Training and Consulting Services in Peoria, IL. The CDL program is designed for individuals with little or no commerical driving experience in preparation for an entry-level position in the trucking industry. Individuals will receive a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical; CDL learner’s permit and endorsement preparation; DOT rules and regulations; log books; and training in map reading, trip planning, and vehicle operation. The program also includes the Class A road test.

The truck driving industry is currently experiencing a shortage of drivers. Following completion of training, entry-level truck drivers can earn an average of $36,000-$46,000 the first year.

Individuals must be able to read and write the English language, be over 21 years of age, be able to meet the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements, and have a valid driver’s license at the time of registration. Those 18 to 21 years of age may train through this program, but they will have limited job placement training.
