Start Your Search Engines
Yahoo no longer a thrill? Tired of asking Jeeves? Overwhelmed by oodles of Googles? And what exactly is a "wiki?" Get the facts on search engines and go straight to what you're looking for. This session will help you understand:
- The differences between search engines, directories, meta-search engines, and wikis
- How to use quoted phrases, Boolean operators, and advanced searches to get more relevant hits
- How to find graphics and multimedia content using your favorite search site

Creating / Maintaining An Instructor Web Site
Is creating a web page for your classes something you're always going to get around to next semester? Well, next semester is here now! Learn how to get started putting your class materials in cyberspace, and maybe even have a little fun in the process. Topics covered will include best practices in:
- Content ("must haves," nice extras, what's appropriate, and what's not)
- Formatting (or "Why you shouldn't use neon green letters on a pink background")
- Layout and navigation (how to make sure your users can find what they need)
- Tools and techniques (how to create a page and get it where it goes)

A Look at the Early Alert System
Research shows that early alert programs increase student success. Madisonville Community College revised its advising process to include both technological and procedural components of an early alert system, and the results were positive. The system provides a means for faculty and student support services to efficiently collaborate to promote student success.

Online Orientation - Making the Most of New Student Orientation
How do you orient new students in an efficient manner while still reviewing all the information they should know? Madisonville Community College revised the "parade of personnel" orientation to a two-phase model. Students review information through an online orientation, then come to campus prepared for small group advising and registration. Come see how it works!
