CONTEMPORARY ECONOMIC ISSUES
ECO 101-75Z1

No Prerequisites
COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
A basic course in the analysis of contemporary economic issues
with emphasis on current economic topics such as inflation, poverty and
affluence, urban congestion, and environmental pollution. (Credit will not be given for this course to
students who have received prior credit in ECO 201 and/or ECO 202.)

WRITING:
To communicate effectively using standard written English.
Students will use essays to analyze current literature.
All faculty are expected to call attention to and penalize for errors in English usage and require the rewriting of papers which do not meet acceptable standards.
ETHICS/VALUES:
To demonstrate an awareness of ethical considerations in making value
choices.
Cheating and/or plagiarism on homework, quizzes, writing assignments, and tests
will not be allowed. As a class we will
discuss the topic of cheating and plagiarism as it relates to student

SCHEDULE
OF COURSE:
The course is topical in nature and topics we cover will change depending on current events.
EXAMS:
There will be a mid-term exam and a final exam. Both exams will be essay based.
QUIZZES:
Quizzes will be given throughout the semester. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.
DISSCUSSION
FORUM:
Students will be required to post on discussion
forums. The forums will be graded to
assure student participation.
READING
SUMMARIES:
Each student will be required to submit summaries of
reading assignments. Articles from the Wall Street Journal will be assigned throughout
the semester.

GRADE
I:
The grade I means that part of the course remains
undone. It shall be given only when
there is reasonable possibility that a passing grade will result from
completion of the work. The instructor
shall not give an I grade when the reason for completeness is unsatisfactory to
the instructor.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance does not count in calculating your grade and is not taken; however, it is important that you be diligent in keeping up with the material

WORK POLICY:
Late
work will be accepted with a 5% penalty for each day late.
MAKE-UP
POLICY:
Make ups are not allowed due
to the nature of the course.
