Scholarships and Support Opportunities
The following scholarships and support are only available to Muhlenberg County students.
MCC Scholarship / Program Endowments
Partners in Progress Endowment
The Partners in Progress Endowment supports approximately 20 Muhlenberg students with awards each year. The average award is $1,100 for full-time students.
Gentry Biology Endowment
The Gentry Biology Endowment provides a $1,100 annual award to a medical, biology or pharmacy student. Funds for this endowment were provided by the family of Darrel and E.A. Gentry.
Muhlenberg County Endowment for Excellence
The Muhlenberg County Endowment for Excellence was established to receive various general gifts from local donors. The endowment will support programming and students specific to the Muhlenberg County Campus. A total of $45,000 is available each year for tutorial wages, scholarships, and arts outreach programs. The current fund balance of of the Muhlenberg County Endowment for Excellence is $725,000.
Allied Health Endowments
Allied health endowments provide scholarship support for students majoring in studies such as physical therapist assistant, occupational therapy assistant, radiography, respiratory care, and nursing.
Annual Fund
The Annual Fund provides 4-5 scholarships.
Muhlenberg Community Hospital
Muhlenberg Community Hospital provides direct support for Associate Degree nursing students and LPN students, and Medical Students from Muhlenberg County. The hospital supports medical students in specialty areas up to $15,000 annually. This support is handled on a case-by-case basis. In all three areas of study, the student who receives hospital support must return to practice in Muhlenberg County for specific period after graduation.
The Everly Brothers Foundation
The Everly Brothers Foundation provides $4,000-5,000 a year to support non-traditional, adult students, and in some cases, recent graduates of area high schools. MCC matches the Foundation's gifts annually.
Iris Givens Estate Gift
Madisonville Community College has received an estate gift from the late Iris Givens of $1.48 million, providing $102,000 annually for local scholarships and the School Counts! Workforce Program. Ninety percent of the money is distributed locally, and ten percent is reinvested. The first graduates of the School Counts! program will begin attending MCC in fall 2011. At the request of the estate's executors, some scholarship money is reserved for allied health students, especially adults. This endowment’s market value will exceed $1.6 million by 2010. The current annual budget for the Givens Fund is as follows:
