MCC Celebrates Campaign Conclusion
Fulfilling the Promise campaign chair Steve Cox and Madisonville Community College president Dr. Judy Rhoads had a great day yesterday – as over 120 college contributors and volunteers gathered to celebrate the conclusion of Fulfilling the Promise, a 6½ year effort to raise significant private funds, especially endowment dollars for MCC. Cox announced a pledge and gift total of $ 9,625,871 to those in attendance; this exceeded the original $5 million goal by 92%. Cox was ecstatic with the results, stating that the campaign not only increased endowment holdings by 300% but garnered “important public advocacy and support that will help our campus for years. The real winners in this campaign are current and future college students.”
Of the total amount received, $1.8 million is designated to the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts, $1.5 million to School Counts! for Hopkins County, $2 million for other scholarship opportunities, $1.1 million to the Brown Badgett, Sr. Energy & Advanced Technology Center and $1.1 million specifically to the Muhlenberg County Campus. As a result of the campaign, 275 students will receive private awards each academic year, and the Glema Center’s endowment base now provides about $50,000 in interest. The campaign included four donors who gave at least $700,000 during the six year effort, including the late Iris Givens, Brown Badgett, Sr., Trover Health System, and Tom & Skip Shaver. Combined, these lead gifts represent 52% of the pledge total.
Dr. Rhoads was especially pleased to have conducted such a successful project. “This campaign provides increased scholarship for students and more funding for employees to support professional development opportunities. With recent budget cuts and tuition increases, our private resources take on a much greater value. Most of these campaign gifts have been designated to endowments, which are permanent in nature. This campaign simply helps us to remain one of America’s best two year colleges.”
Besides those donors mentioned above, contributors who provided at least $100,000 to the campaign include Autoliv ASP, the J. Rogers Badgett Foundation, Russell Badgett, Jr., the Anne P. Baker Family, First United Bank & Trust of Hopkins County, the Lavender Foundation, Madisonville Rotary Club, Mrs. Glema Mahr, Old National Bank, the estate of Mrs. Irene Sadler, the U.S. Department of Education, the Kentucky Council on Post Secondary Education, the late Mrs. Martha Gooch Waddill, and an anonymous friend.
