MCC Muhlenberg County Campus Offers General Education and Career-Track Coursework
CENTRAL CITY, Ky.--Madisonville Community College offers classes in Muhlenberg County that provide opportunities for earning general education credits or completing certificates which prepare students careers in nursing or real estate.
A complete schedule of classes for the fall semester can be obtained from the Muhlenberg County Campus or interested persons can review the schedule online at www.madisonville.kctcs.edu/schedule.
Registration for fall semester classes is currently underway, and college officials expect approximately 800 students to enroll.
“We have a variety of classes for students who either want to get their associate degree prior to transferring to a four-year school or wish to take their general education classes for one of the many career fields such as business administration, nursing, education, machine tool and mining--just to mention a few programs offered at one of our campuses in Madisonville,” said Penny Jessup, student affairs specialist.
For those interested in nursing, MCC offers NAA 100, Nursing Assistant Skills I. Successful completion of this course allows students to take state examinations for certified nurse aide. NAA 100 is also a prerequisite for other nursing programs at MCC.
Two NAA 100 courses are scheduled for fall. The first will be offered from August 18 through October 17 and the second will follow from October 27 through December 13. Both classes will meet at the Muhlenberg Area Technology Center from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings with one Saturday class.
Also offered on the Muhlenberg Campus are RE 100 and 200, Real Estate Principles I and II, via interactive television from Madisonville. These courses satisfy the real estate education required by the Kentucky Real Estate Commission for the real estate salesperson license. The classes can be taken together or students can take Real Estate Principles I in the fall and Real Estate Principles II in the spring. Both classes meet from 6 to 8:45 p.m. The initial class is offered on Mondays and the second class on Tuesdays.
Students wanting to work on general education may be interested in Comparative Religion or an Introduction to the New Testament class taught by Rob Gwaltney. Local residents interested in these subjects may take the class even if they do not intend to complete a degree program.
Students interested in business classes have several choices on the fall schedule. Introduction to Business (BA 160) is scheduled via interactive television from 1 to 2:15 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. Local attorney Jonathan King will be teaching business law from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. These classes may be taken by persons interested in business without committing to a degree program.
Persons interested in criminal justice and law enforcement should consider one or both of the criminal justice classes on the schedule. Patti Webb, the retired warden at the Green River Correctional Center, is teaching CJ 102, Introduction to Corrections, on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Local attorney Eric Stovall will be the instructor for a Criminal Procedures class (CJ 216) on Monday evening at the same time.
The last day to apply for admission for the fall semester is Friday, August 8, with classes beginning August 18. Tuition at MCC is the most affordable in the state and financial aid is available to those who qualify.Kentucky residents 65 and over may qualify for a tuition waiver.
