Back on Track

So you've found yourself on academic probation. What does that mean? How will it affect your academic career? How do you return to good academic standing? It is the intent of this presentation to answer these and other questions about academic probation.

Below is some information you will need before beginning the workshop.

Length of the Presentation

This presentation should take you about 25 minutes to complete but there is no way to save your progress, so you'll want to make sure you have adequate time to spend on it before you begin.

A Printer is Required

Before you begin, you need to print the following handouts. They will be referenced within the presentation. All of these handouts require Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Also, at the end of this workshop, you will take a quiz over the material presented. If you get 80% of the questions correct, you will need to print a confirmation page verifying that you have satisfactorily completed the workshop and mail or fax it back to the college.

If you do not have access to a printer, please utilize one of the on-campus computer labs. A color printer is not required.

Navigating the Workshop

Navigating the workshop is easy. Locate the gold bar near the top of the page. On the left, you'll see your location within the workshop. For instance, this page's gold bar says "Back on Track: Instructions."

On the right hand side of the bar, you will see links to navigate to the previous (< Prev) and next (Next >) sections of the workshop. (Notice that the gold bar for this page has no link to a previous page.) Once you're done reading a page, click the Next > link. If you need to go back to review a page, just click the < Prev link.

Hearing the Audio

This workshop includes audible narration from Madisonville Community College Counselor Sherry Hewell. To accomodate users with low-bandwidth Internet connections and those who have hearing difficulties, the audio is completely optional. A transcript of the audio is presented on each page.

Those who wish to hear the audio may click the "Hear narration" link at the bottom of each page. Depending on how your computer is configured, you may be asked whether to open or save the file, or your computer may just open your default media player and begin to play the audio. If you are asked whether to save or open, choosing "Open" is recommended. This will launch your default media player. If you are asked what program to open the file with, it may indicate that you do not have software capable of playing MP3 files installed on your computer. Once your media player application is open, it is recommended that you keep it running throughout the workshop so you will not have to wait for it to open again on every subsequent slide.

Please note that not every slide has audio.

Information for Screen Reader Users

For those using screen reader technology, please note that the PowerPoint slides in this workshop are displayed as graphics. The text of the slide is only included in the alt text when it references material not mentioned in the transcript.
