Information for Students

Who cares if you're late for school? Who cares if your grades are low? Who cares if you're absent a lot? The area employers in Hopkins County care! Performance in school is one factor that could predict how well you would do in a job. Surveys tell us that employers care more about attendance and punctuality than you might think.

The School Counts Program can help prove to employers that you are a hard working student. By meeting the four criteria of the School Counts program, you can become a School Counts student. You will be issued a certificate of achievement each year in high school that you meet the criteria. This certificate can be presented to employers in Hopkins County.

Not enough reason to participate?

Beginning with the class of 2008, all of the students in Hopkins County who graduate from high school and earn four consecutive School Counts program certificates will receive up to $1000 per semester for four semesters for tuition to Madisonville Community College. This support will be for students who do not qualify for other types of scholarships or financial aid. It will be used in combination with available KEES money.

The program requires no extra time commitment on your part-just keep your grades up, come to school every day, and be on time. Don’t load up on classes that are not challenging; take academic courses that are stimulating and career oriented.

High school years are very important-make the most of them by participating in School Counts!

To sign up for School Counts, see your guidance counselor or print and return a student application.
