Program Description
Medical Information Technology graduates prepare prepare medical records and reports, maintain files, order supplies, perform accounting procedures, transcribe medical documentation, work with medical insurance and coding, and receive patients in a variety of healthcare settings. Laboratory and classroom experiences are combined to prepare graduates for careers in healthcare facilities.

Employment Opportunities
Depending on which option the student selects to study, they can expect to make between $20,000 - $30,000 per year with a fairly quick opportunity to increase to the mid $30,000 range. It is expected that healthcare careers will increase over the next 10 years.
Admission Requirements:
The following should be submitted to the Office of Admissions for admission to this program:
- Application for admission
(154 K) - High School transcript or GED
- ACT, COMPASS, or ASSET scores
- Transcripts of all previous college work
- Age verification (must be 16 years of age)
Length of Program
The Medical Information Technology program offers a variety of options. These include two diplomas (Medical Transcription and Medical Insurance Technician) which can be completed in three semesters and an Associate of Applied Science in General Occupational Studies Degree with options in Medical Transcription, Insurance Coding, Medical Records or Administrative Assistant. The AAS can be completed in two years. The two certificates for the program, Medical Receptionist and Administrative Health Unit Coordinator, can be completed in two semesters.
